Biography

Pablo Varas Enriquez is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Toulouse. He earned his PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and holds an MSc from the University of Amsterdam and a BSc from the University of Chile. Pablo's research focuses on understanding why humans and other species reproduce from an evolutionary perspective. To explore this, he examines the role of trade-offs between survival and reproduction, environmental uncertainty, and resource dynamics—such as production and sharing—by analysing patterns within and between populations, as well as by comparing different species. Methodologically, Pablo specialises in statistical and data analysis, with a particular focus on Bayesian statistics, as well as computational modeling, including agent-based and matrix population models. In his current position, he aims to explore how the transmission of cultural values between individuals influences the reproductive behaviour of women, with a special focus on women from Vanuatu and Poland.
