Résumé
An overview is provided of several studies using computational tools and digital trace data on mobility, migration, and collaboration of the highly-Skilled, scholars, and professionals. These studies show different trends in subnational and international migration of scholars and how to use large-scale bibliometric data to investigate the global migration of scholars. The talk highlights how migration of scholars is associated with gender, and country’s development and whether and how it is affected by the collaboration networks among scholars. Digital trace data is known to have a left-censoring issue and the talk shows potential solutions to this issue using machine learning in the context of migration research. Additionally, the migration of the highly-skilled and professionals worldwide using LinkedIn data will be presented as a complementary database to go beyond limitations of bibliometric and publications data.
